On July 17, 2025, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall on 24,173 pounds of Al Fresco brand Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage. The recall was initiated by Kayem Foods Inc. of Chelsea, Mass., after three consumers reported finding pieces of white plastic in the company’s ready-to-eat chicken sausage products.
The affected sausage was produced on June 28 and shipped to retailers nationwide.
How To Identify the Recalled Chicken Sausage
If you have recently purchased Al Fresco Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage, look for the following information to identify if your product has been recalled:
- 11-ounce vacuum-packed packages containing four pieces of “All Natural Al Fresco Chicken Sausage Sweet Apple with Vermont Made Syrup” with lot code “179” and “Use/Freeze By” date “OCT 01 2025” printed on the back package label.
Additionally, the product will bear the establishment number “P-7839” inside the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) seal, which is featured on the front of the product in the bottom right corner. You can also find images of the product labels on the FSIS website.
What To Do if You Have the Recalled Chicken Sausage
If you have the recalled chicken sausage in your refrigerator or freezer, you should not consume it. Instead, throw it away or return it to the original place of purchase for a refund.
At this time, there have been no reports of injury related to the consumption of the recalled product. However, anyone with related health concerns should contact their healthcare provider.
