It seems like every summer we try to find a new treat that will replace s’mores for those campfire cookouts. The gooey marshmallow, chocolate, and graham cracker snack will always have a place in our hearts—and around our fires—but sometimes we want something just a little bit different.
On some nights, that sweet craving could be for something totally new, like a toasted Rice Krispies Treat or brown bears—while other nights the hankering might have you reaching for a new take on the classic s’mores.
So, next time you’re in the mood to upgrade the roasted marshmallow, graham cracker, and sweet chocolate dessert, we’ve found the ultimate hack. Instead of toasting a classic marshmallow, then sandwiching it between two graham crackers and a piece of chocolate, try starting with a Reese’s peanut butter cup and marshmallow fluff.
The Viral Marshmallow Fluff Reese’s S’mores
Instagram user @thedailynelly shared a video of what she called the “best s’mores hack.” While using Reese’s as your s’mores candy isn’t new—Hershey’s even sells a S’mores Kit with the chocolate-peanut butter candy included—the method for these s’mores is.
She doesn’t skewer a marshmallow onto the s’mores sticks, but rather places a Reese’s peanut butter cup on the prongs. Then, she dunks the Reese’s cup into a jar of Jet-Puffed marshmallow fluff.
Once the Reese’s is completely coated in marshmallow goodness, she roasts the entire concoction over the fire until the marshmallow fluff is golden brown and the Reese’s is beginning to melt. Then, just like a regular s’more, she deposits the marshmallow-wrapped Reese’s onto a graham cracker and tops it with a second graham cracker.
Our culinary producer, Nicole McLaughlin, recently tried the marshmallow fluff method and raved about it because it “only takes seconds to char.” So, instead of waiting for your marshmallow to puff up and get brown and gooey, the marshmallow fluff speeds up the process. Plus, by adding the candy to marshmallow fluff over the fire, it’ll get perfectly melty alongside the mallow.
McLaughlin tried to “s’more-ify” multiple foods, including a strawberry and a Snickers bar. However, she said her favorite and “greatest invention” was a peanut butter Ritz cracker sandwich dipped in marshmallow fluff and toasted over the fire.
“It’s like all of the inside of a Nutty Buddy,” she said.
It seems this hack will let you turn just about anything into a s’more, but we’re already planning to add the marshmallow fluff-covered Reese’s to a mountain pie for the tastiest fluffernutter sandwich ever.
