TEMA reports 2.4 magnitude earthquake in Middle TN

PARK CITY, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency announced that an earthquake shook southern Middle Tennessee on Sunday morning.

TEMA said the United State Geological Survey reported a 2.4 magnitude earthquake occurred just southwest of Park City, Tenn. in Lincoln County near the Alabama state line.

According to TEMA, people typically do not feel earthquakes under a 3.0 magnitude. At this time, no one is reporting feeling any shaking in or around the area.

“In the central U.S., earthquakes do occur on a regular basis – on average, there are hundreds or more small earthquakes per year in the region,” TEMA said.
