PepsiCo Quietly Discontinued 14 Soda Flavors

Regardless of where you stand on the Coke versus Pepsi debate, you can’t argue that the PepsiCo brand boasts a pretty incredible lineup of flavors. With various iterations of Pepsi and Mountain Dew, including Pepsi Pineapple and Mountain Dew Code Red, there’s plenty of innovations and flavors for every palette. Despite Pepsi’s popularity, not every flavor is a fan -favorite—which may explain why Pepsi quietly discontinued 14 sodas.

Pepsi Flavors Being Discontinued This Year

The Pepsi product locator showcases the soda’s availability, with the most recent releases—Pepsi Wild Cherry and Cream and Pepsi Zero Sugar Wild Cherry and Cream—featured prominently on the site, but scrolling further scrolling suggests that four Pepsi flavors are officially out.

Both Nitro Pepsi and Nitro Pepsi Vanilla—nitrogen-infused sodas with a smooth and creamy texture—are marked as discontinued on the Pepsi site, and Pepsi Lime and Pepsi Peach are simply nowhere to be found. Pepsi Peach and Pepsi Lime only debuted last summer, and were marked as limited-time releases, but there was no explicit timeline for when they’d disappear from shelves. The Nitro Pepsi varieties were initially released in 2022, and stuck around longer than a standard seasonal product or limited-time offering. Now, it appears, their run has come to an end. 

Mountain Dew Flavors Being Discontinued This Year

With 14 sodas being discontinued and only four of them being Pepsi, it’s safe to say that Mountain Dew is taking a real hit when it comes to discontinued flavors. But with a pair of new seasonal flavors—including Mountain Dew Dragon Fruit and Mountain Dew Summer Freeze—and a Circle K-exclusive slushie in stores now, it makes sense that the brand is clearing the shelves of some of its less popular offerings.

First up, the classic caffeine-free Mountain Dew is officially on the outs, which is unfortunate for those watching their caffeine intake. Back in February, we reported that Mountain Dew Major Melon and Mountain Dew Zero Sugar Major Melon were discontinued. Mountain Dew Spark and Mountain Dew Spark Zero Sugar—a raspberry lemonade-flavored soda—met a similar fate, though lucky fans might still find some cans of Spark on shelves.

The beverage company also discontinued Mountain Dew Purple Thunder Zero Sugar, which originally debuted in April 2022. This blackberry- and plum-flavored iteration of the drink was only available at Circle K and Holiday gas stations in the United States, as well as the Kroger family of grocery stores.

As for Mountain Dew White Out, this isn’t the first time the flavor has been discontinued. The citrus-flavored drink first debuted in 2010 as a finalist in the “Dewmocracy 2” promotion and became a permanent flavor in the U.S. However, the soda was first limited to certain regions and independent Pepsi bottlers in the Midwest beginning in 2019. Now, it looks like it’s gone for good.

PepsiCo is also discontinuing three flavors of Mountain Dew Kickstart, which is marketed as an energy drink with more caffeine than a typical can of soda. While Mountain Dew Kickstart Mango Lime, Mountain Dew Kickstart Original Dew, and Mountain Dew Kickstart Blueberry Pomegranate are getting the can, fans of the iteration can still enjoy other Kickstart flavors including strawberry, grape, melon, and fruit punch.

Finally, Mountain Dew Baja Blast Cabo Citrus and Mountain Dew Baja Blast Cabo Citrus Zero Sugar are both labelled as limited-time offerings on the site, so now is the time if you want to try this tropical twist on the citrus soda. As for me, I’ll be stocking up on Mountain Dew Spark while I still can.
