Messi, Inter Miami out of Fifa Club World Cup
Miami was eliminated in the Round of 16 by Paris Saint-Germain. Safid Deen explains how the league still benefits from this performance despite the loss.
With talk of a move to Club América growing, LAFC star Denis Bouanga isn’t exactly denying that he could join the Liga MX power.
Multiple reports out of Mexico have stated that Bouanga could move to América in the coming weeks. POSTA Deportes called talks between the two clubs “advanced” while TUDN also said that discussions were progressing well.
Bouanga was asked about the links to América at a press conference on Monday in Austin, Texas, where he will represent MLS in the All-Star Game on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old admitted that he had spoken to Tigres striker André-Pierre Gignac about Liga MX, adding that he believed the league would be a good fit for his skillset.
“I only know André-Pierre Gignac because he’s my friend, and that’s it,” Bouanga said. “He’s talked to me about it many times. He told me it’s a good league, that there are good cities, and that I have a style that would suit me well to play there.
“But as I’ve already said, I’m still under contract in Los Angeles. I can’t say too far ahead of myself that I want to play in Mexico. Although, for any soccer player, the Mexican league has its prestige, just like the Brazilian one.”
Bouanga has established himself as one of the top players in MLS since he joined LAFC in 2022. The Gabon international has been named to the MLS Best XI in back-to-back seasons, scoring 20 league goals in both 2023 and 2024.
This season, Bouanga has 13 goals and seven assists in 20 league matches.
Bouanga will take on a team of Liga MX stars on Wednesday, giving him a potential preview of the kind of competition he’ll face in Mexico.
“Just facing the level of the Mexican league. I know there are very, very good players there, and it’s always a pleasure to play against a Mexican team,” the forward said.
