I Just Learned About Sprite’s Super Secret Exclusive Flavor, and Now I Can’t Wait To Try It

Key Takeaways

  • Sprite has an exclusive Coke Freestyle machine flavor aboard Royal Caribbean cruise ships.
  • Royal Berry Blast was created to celebrate Royal Caribbean’s 50th anniversary.

Coca-Cola Freestyle machines put the world of Coke, Sprite, and the rest of the soft drink empire’s portfolio into one nifty dispenser. It’s a soda genie. And beyond the magic of soda customization, Coke sometimes releases specialty fountain drinks exclusive to these Freestyle machines, such as three new flavors recently spotted at a certain Orlando attraction.

But for Sprite fans, there’s a different Freestyle machine worth traveling for, one with an incredibly rare version of the lemon-lime soda.

It’s the Hope Diamond of Sprite flavors. And, yes, you’ll find it in the middle of the ocean.

What Is Royal Berry Blast Sprite?

I love cruising. I’ve sailed with all the big brands, some luxury liners, and even smaller vessels. But the soft drink situation aboard a ship is dismal. (And don’t get me started on cruise coffee.) What sets Royal Caribbean apart is the Freestyle machine. They’re offered on 21 out of 28 Royal ships, which is 75 percent of the brand’s current fleet.

Days at sea are a lot better with my favorite sparkling water customizations, all the best Diet Coke flavors, and a unique Sprite flavor created just for Royal Caribbean: Royal Berry Blast.

The flavor was introduced in 2019 to celebrate Royal Caribbean’s 50th anniversary, and it’s available in both regular and zero-sugar options. Of all the wacky, over-the-top fruit variations on Sprite, this one has Sprite fans confused, excited, and everything in between. No one’s been able to perfectly pinpoint what that berry flavor is.

One Instagrammer said it tastes like vanilla and Sprite, similar to the viral McDonald’s Sprite hack. And when they compared the flavor to other Sprite Freestyle machine variations, they said it has a general mixed berry vibe.

But another reviewer said it’s more like grape soda meets Sprite. And as a diehard fan of this 109-year-old grape soda brand, that combo sounds incredible.
