I must hand it to Blue Bell fans: they are a wildly passionate community. Is that so surprising? The Texas-based creamery has been creating new, crave-worthy flavors for over 100 years, winning the hearts and stomachs of millions of Americans along the way. While the permanent fixtures in Blue Bell’s lineup are delicious in their own right (looking at you, Cookie Two Step), its limited-edition and seasonal offerings are what really rile fans up.
From Strawberry Lemonade to Cherry Cheesecake, Oatmeal Cream Pie, and countless others, just one look at any of the Blue Bell Instagram posts and you’ll find an array of flavors fans are pleading the creamery to revive.
And, every once in a while, Blue Bell indulges us by bringing back a long-lost flavor, just like it had with the recent return of its iconic Orange Swirl. That was big news, but now, another legendary flavor has been spotted on shelves, and it’s one that some fans have been waiting over 10 years to taste again.
Blue Bell Brings Back Homemade in the Shade Ice Cream
According to some eagle-eyed shoppers, Blue Bell’s Homemade in the Shade ice cream is officially back on shelves for a limited time. The massively popular ice cream features the brand’s signature Homemade Vanilla ice cream swirled with chocolaty hot fudge ribbons that add texture and a slightly bitter edge, complementing the sweet vanilla perfectly. It may not be as loud as the brand’s other flavors, such as the hard-to-miss Krazy Kookie Dough, but its simplicity is what wins fans over.
The flavor initially launched in 2011, and to say it left a strong impression is an understatement. Fans have been regularly requesting the return of this flavor for years. “Shut up! I swear I’ve checked the Blue Bell ice cream for the past 10 years, hoping for this to come back,” commented a TikToker on a video about the grocery store find.
“My favorite Blue Bell of all time, finally coming back!!!” another fan rejoiced on a Reddit thread sharing the news.
“My new favorite 10/10,” another Redditor responded. “I bought some last night and killed the whole pint immediately.”
While Blue Bell typically offers nationwide shipping on many of its flavors, as of now, it appears that Homemade in the Shade is only available in stores, wherever Blue Bell is sold. Considering the number of Homemade in the Shade fans out there, we have a feeling this in-demand flavor won’t stick around for very long. So take a cue from Blue Bell fans and get to your nearest grocery store, stat!
