Each week, we wait patiently for Aldi to update the Aldi Finds page. And each week we are wowed by the new homewares, name brand products, international foods, and, of course, the copycat products we can’t get enough of.
This week, while looking through the Upcoming Aldi Finds page, I was stopped mid-scroll. The latest Aldi copycat looked like an exact match of a Trader Joe’s product that has more than a decade of fan appeal.
Looks like I don’t have to make a stop at TJ’s anymore—at least while this Aldi Find is still on shelves.
Aldi Releases New Benton’s Speculoos Cookie Butter
Allrecipes / Aldi / Trader Joe’s
From July 23 to 29, Aldi will be selling Benton’s Speculoos Cookie Butter in both creamy and chunky varieties. The 14.1-ounce jar will be sold for $3.49, but may vary across regions. For cookie butter devotees, this is big, big news.
The release of Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter sent waves through the Trader Joe’s shopping community when it was released in 2011. And the obsession has never waned, so much so that the product went on to become one of Trader Joe’s flagship items, and at one point, its best selling product.
“I love this product, it tastes like cookies and frosting,” said one Amazon reviewer about the famed Trader Joe’s product. “The cinnamon and hints of nutmeg are amazing. I put a spoon in my hot coffee and it was so good. I have eaten a whole jar in three days.”
Speculoos cookies are a Belgian biscuit that tastes like gingerbread shortbread with cinnamon and brown sugar. The Lotus Biscoff cookies you get on airplanes? Yep, that’s the most popular U.S. and U.K. version.
For the cookie butter, Speculoos cookies are ground up, creating a creamy and smooth spread—just like peanut butter. The result is a complex, spiced, and sweet spread that you can use in a hundred different ways, or just lick right off the spoon.
With the exception of Lotus Biscoff Cookie Butter, Trader Joe’s was really the only place to go to find this incredible product. But now, the copycat recipe developers at Aldi made their own, and I cannot wait to try it.
If you’re curious about cookie butter and want to snag a jar, turn to Reddit for some recommendations on how to use it. Redditors on r/traderjoes have shared some of their favorite ways to enjoy, such as heating it and drizzling it on top of ice cream, eating it with apples, spreading it on waffles or pancakes, adding it to your homemade Rice Krispies Treats, stirring it into your oatmeal, turning it into a latte, and more.
Remember: Aldi Finds only last one week. So, stock up now. And while you’re at it, swing by Trader Joe’s to pick up a jar of its cookie butter so you can do a taste test comparison to see if the copycat beats the original.
