I really love grocery shopping. While it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I enjoy pushing my shopping cart through store aisles, checking out what’s new. Whether it’s a new variety of strawberry in the produce section or new products from brands like Jell-O or Ocean Spray, I love tossing new items into my cart to bring home and try.
Next on my must-find grocery item list: an all-new variety of romaine lettuce that’s ready to eat right from the container. No washing required.
Little Leaf Farms Releases New Romaine Leaf Lettuce
Little Leaf Farms just announced a brand-new lettuce to its lineup of prepackaged greens: Romaine Leaf. If you’re not familiar with the company, other varieties from Little Leaf Farms include lettuce blends such as Sweet Baby Butter Leaf and Baby Spring Mix. The brand also sells salad kits, such as Crispy Caesar and Southwest.
The new leaves of Romaine Leaf are small and crisp with a bold crunch. Each lettuce variety is packaged in a plastic clamshell-style container (made of 100 percent, recycled post-consumer PET), and, according to a press release from Little Leaf Farms, this ensures the lettuce stays fresh longer.

But here’s the real flex. According to the brand, because the leaves are grown without pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides, it’s safe to eat right out of the container, no washing required. The new Romaine Leaf has a suggested price of $3.99, though prices can vary by region and retailer.
It’s perfect for adding to sandwiches and wraps, or making a classic Caesar salad. The lettuce would also be great incorporated into recipes like Grilled Fish Tacos with Cilantro-Lime Dressing or Strawberry Romaine Summer Salad. In fact, these tiny, crisp leaves would be clutch in lots of summer recipes, from Easy and Fast Cajun Chicken Caesar Salad to Grilled Shrimp Caesar Wraps.
Little Leaf Farms’ Romaine Leaf comes from two farms in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, and the new variety should be in produce sections across the Eastern U.S. soon, if it’s not available already.
Walmart has the new 4-ounce clamshells listed as grocery inventory, but the item is labeled as sold out for both in-store pickup and delivery, as well as shipping. However, we hope this means that it’s coming soon.
Until then, if you’re on the East Coast, check your local co-op as that seems to be where the new lettuce is popping up first. It was available at this New York co-op last month.
