The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for 44,550 pounds of Bornstein Seafoods frozen shrimp. The Cooked & Peeled Ready-To-Eat Coldwater Shrimp Meat was recalled after it was discovered that it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
How To Identify the Recalled Shrimp
The bags of recalled Bornstein Seafoods’ shrimp were produced in Bellingham, Wash., and sold to distributors and retailers in California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia of Canada—though the FDA says products may have been distributed to more retailers nationwide. The recalled frozen shrimp was sold in one- and five-pound bags with the market name “Shrimp.”
Bornstein Seafoods discovered the issue during routine testing when an in-process shrimp sample was found to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The company has ceased all distribution of the product as it further investigates the problem.

What To Do if You Have the Recalled Shrimp
If you have any of the recalled frozen shrimp products, you should not consume them. Instead, throw them away or return them to the original place of purchase for a full refund.
At this time, no Listeria infections or illnesses have been reported in connection to this recall. However, if you consumed the contaminated shrimp, you should monitor yourself for Listeria infection symptoms. Common symptoms include high fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
While most healthy individuals will not become seriously ill, Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in newborns, children, elderly people, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant individuals. It can also lead to miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant people.
If you are experiencing any Listeria symptoms, you should contact your healthcare provider. For any questions regarding the recall, you can reach out to Bornstein Seafoods Inc., directly at Andrew@bornstein.com.
