Trader Joe’s Just Released a New Version of Its Fan-Favorite ‘Hall of Fame’ Product

Two years ago, Trader Joe’s introduced the Trader Joe’s Product Hall of Fame, a fun way to celebrate and honor the products that win the Trader Joe’s Customer Choice Awards so often, and so fervently, that the store decided to “take them out of contention, so that other products might get their turn in the spotlight.” Hall of Fame products have to have won at least five times in their respective categories to get honored with a spot in the hallowed Hall. 

In the Hall, you’ll find familiar favorites—permanent products you’ve been enjoying for years and years. Trader Joe’s Hall of Famers include the Chili & Lime Flavored Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips, the Mandarin Orange Chicken, the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, the Peanut Butter Filled Pretzel Nuggets, the Soy Chorizo, and the store’s most-beloved cheese: Unexpected Cheddar. 

Unexpected Cheddar was introduced in the summer of 2011 and has skyrocketed to the top of Trader Joe’s most popular items. The “unexpected” element of this cheese is the taste of Parmesan throughout the aged Cheddar. The cheese is so beloved that devoted fans say that it’s “hands down [their] favorite thing at TJs,” and “has to be one of the best cheeses [they] ever tried.” And now, the Hall of Famer was made into an entirely new product for fans to obsess over. 

Trader Joe’s Introduces Buffalo Blue Unexpected Cheddar Cheese Spread

The latest addition to the Trader Joe’s Unexpected Cheddar suite of products is the Buffalo Blue Unexpected Cheddar Cheese Spread. It’s marked as a limited-time product and is being sold for $4.99 for a nine-ounce tub. 

The Buffalo Blue Unexpected Cheddar Cheese Spread is described as a “beautifully buttery spread [that] employs a base of our piquant and Parmesan-y Unexpected Cheddar, adds the flavors of rich Blue Cheese, then finishes it off with a scintillating swirl of Buffalo-style hot sauce.” The result? “A complex mix of savory, creamy, spicy, and funky, all at once.”

We’re eating a lot of blue cheese, Cheddar, and Buffalo-style hot sauce this time of year, as football season rolls out. So this new Trader Joe’s product will be right at home on our game-day snack table. Trader Joe’s suggests pairing it with a cracker, spreading it on a sandwich, or serving it as part of a seasonal charcuterie board. The shop also says that this spread is a delicious topper for a toasty bagel. 

Fans of the Unexpected Cheddar are excited to try this new variation. “I am so ready for this,” enthuses one Redditor. “I love Buffalo blue flavors.” Another shared that it “will definitely be going on my shopping list.”

This isn’t the retailer’s first foray into Unexpected Cheddar experimentation. The brand boasts many products that utilize the delicious cheese, including Unexpected Broccoli Cheddar Soup, Unexpected Cheddar Cheese & Turkey Sausage Egg White Bites, Unexpected Cheddar Cheese Spread with Hatch Chile, Unexpected Cheddar Chicken Sausage, and more.
